The Base Library, located at the corner of D Street and Brookley Avenue, across from Chapel 3, provides a variety of educational and recreational support with more than 30,000 books, DVDs, videocassettes and books-on-tape, as well as 125+ magazines and journals and a computer lab with Internet access for registered patrons. 

The library's computer lab provides access to several online databases, some of which can be accessed from your office on home. Additionally, there are computers for word processing and other office applications, as well as a photocopier, facsimile machine and a typewriter for public use. 

The Base Library has two separate rooms for juvenile books and magazines.  One of which has a multimedia computer loaded with more than 20 educational and recreational cd-roms. For more information, please call (301)981-6454.

Computer Resources

The computer lab consists of ten workstations.  Computers are available on a first-come, first served basis; no reservations are taken.  Each patron is limited to one hour Internet time and two hours for research while other patrons are waiting.  Computers must be checked out prior to use.   All computer users must sign in and acknowledge they have read and understand the Computer and Internet Policies.

  • Internet access via a T-1 line through Verizon and is available on all computer lab PCs. 

  • E-mail access is permitted using free internet-based accounts from sites such as Yahoo!, Hotmail and AOL, however, e-mail using Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express is not permitted.

  • Microsoft Office 2000 applications are available on all Computer Lab PCs.

  • Saving of personal data/documents/pictures on all Computer Lab PCs is prohibited.

  • Printing is free for the first 5 pages.  All other printing is 10 cents per page.
