Andrews Base Honor Guard FAQ Sheet

1. What services are provided by the Andrews Base Honor Guard (HG) team?

The team can present, post, and or retire the Colors. We also provide a two man flag folding performance for retirements.

2. What do I need to know about a Colors team performance by the HG?

2.1. COLORS DEFINITIONS

Presenting Colors: the team carries the colors in and takes them out immediately after the Nat. Anthem

Posting Colors: the team will post and leave the flags in stands after the National Anthem

Retiring the Colors: the team will formally remove the flags at the close of the event

2.2. COLORS PROTOCOL & EQUIPMENT

2.2.1. Since NO ONE should be moving during the Advancement, Presenting, or Departure of the Colors please have the Singer(s) in place prior to the team advancing to the front.

2.2.2. The National Anthem will be played/sung once the team reaches the front of the room and presents arms (visual cue is the dipping of the AF flag).

2.2.3. We bring all equipment unless the POC already has the necessary equipment.

3. What do I need to know about a Flag folding performance by the HG?

3.1. FLAG FOLDING PROTOCOL & EQUIPMENT

3.1.1. Order of events: The flag folding performance should be the last “presentation” during the retirement.

3.1.2. The HG member will present the folded flag to the retirement Officiator, who in turn presents the flag to the Retiree. (Both must salute the flag after hand-off) The following is an example of the officiator statement to Retiree:

(Retiree’s Rank and Name,) on behalf of our squadron [or other unit], your friends and your family, I present this flag in recognition of your [number] years of faithful service with the United States Air Force.

3.1.3. Everyone is seated during the flag folding and the Official party should rise to accept the folded flag from the HG member.

3.1.4. The flag used during the performance is brought by the team and collected at the end of the event.

Note: If time allows and the team lead (NCT) desires we will attempt to fold any flag purchased by the retiree prior to the start of the event…this will determine its suitability for use during the performance

3.2. FLAG FOLDING RESTRICTIONS

3.2.1. Only one script is authorized for reading during the performance, which is provided by the HG program manager and read by the event MC.

3.2.2. Music cannot be played during the flag folding performance

For any other questions please call DSN 858-7892 Comm. 301-981-7892 or by E-mail honor.guard@andrews.af.mil
