Intramural Sports
The Andrews intramural sports program is the largest part of an
intensive base athletic program. In the late spring, the year's program kicks off with slow-pitch
softball. The season runs through August and provides Andrews with a
spirited brand of softball. Perhaps the most popular sport at
Andrews is basketball, played all year round. The formal season
begins in November, immediately following flag football and features
several leagues. The "Over 30" basketball league usually
fields about a dozen teams and participant have to be 30 or older to
play.
Varsity Sports Andrews offers a varied varsity sports program including slow-pitch
softball, basketball, volleyball, flag football and soccer for men and
women. Varsity teams play against other area teams and Andrews has
been very successful at winning its share of games. Teams compete
against other military and civilian teams within the Washington
metropolitan area. Other sports offered in varsity or intramurals
during the year are bowling, volleyball, tennis, golf summer basketball,
floor hockey and soccer.
Aerobics Classes
Classes are held daily throughout the day.
There are 27 aerobics classes If you wish to participate
Running
A variety of running courses are available from a 1.5
mile course to the course that takes you around the base on perimeter road.
Running or jogging on the road has its hazards and you must always be on
the lookout. Use the tracks provided or on the sidewalks and when
you have to run on the the streets--then jog facing the traffic.
Remember, it is not a safe idea to jog with headsets. Also, there is
no running on Virginia Ave from San Antonio Ave to South Perimeter Road
and also on the Golf Course. (Look for the no jogging signs)
